Do You Feel Distressed?
- Are you anxious or depressed?
- Are your intimate relationships troubled or disappointing?
- Have you become aware of self-limiting behavior and want to change it?
Psychotherapy Can Help
Working together I help you find solutions to your problems and find answers to important questions:
- Why now? What is the recent pattern of events that triggered the distress?
- How does this relate to the larger story of your life?
- Do you behave in a self limiting manner?
- Is this part of a repetitive pattern or cycle?
- What are alternate ways for your to think, feel and behave that will be more effective and satisfying?
I am a highly trained listener and I ask you skillful questions.
I coach you to problem solve, to challenge self defeating thoughts, to replace critical self talk with affirmations of self worth and to experiment with new, more rewarding ways of relating to others.
Together we explore your family history and articulate the important themes and story-lines. We explore ways to re-shape family patterns, to “break the chain” of un-happy or hurtful behavior passed down through the generations.
Benefits of Psychotherapy
- Your symptoms resolve, you feel less depressed, less anxious.
- You find solutions to the distressing problems that brought you to therapy.
- You gain insight about your core issues.
- You learn new interpersonal skills and give up self defeating patterns of behavior.
- The quality of your relationships improves.
How Long Does it Take?
I work with clients in an
active, forward looking process of change. I focus first on solving specific urgent problems. For some clients this is enough. Therefore many clients conclude therapy after 10-12 sessions feeling relief from the initial symptoms and have made a course correction to improve their life into the future.
Others want to introspect more deeply into their core issues to better understand their vulnerabilities as well as their strengths and learn how to heal emotional wounds that limit their sense of well-being.
Crisis is an Opportunity for Change
The Chinese character for “crisis” is composed of the symbol for “danger” and the symbol for “opportunity.” Psychotherapy can turn a life crisis into an opportunity to master a difficult situation and thus grow as a person.
